Sometimes I have ideas for comic strips that don't really fit into the world of Calamities of Nature. Instead of letting them sit on my computer, I thought it would be fun to share them from time to time. Hey look, here's one now! (Click image for the full-size comic.)
Original Artwork Now For Sale
January 11, 2010 - Monday
As you may know, each Calamities of Nature comic strip is still drawn the old-fashioned way, with a brush, dip pen, and India ink, before being scanned and colored in Photoshop. I'm excited to announce that I'm now making some of these unique pieces of art available for purchase. Just click on the link below any comic that reads "Buy original art" to order. For right now the first 104 strips, which were draw as full-size comic book pages, are not available. But this may change depending on how sales go. For more information, including sample of the artwork, visit the original art page. If there are any strips you've been dying to get, make sure you buy now because you're not going to get another chance!
One of my aspirations for this coming year (hopefully it's not a pipe-dream) is to produce a second collection of Calamities of Nature comics. Ideally, I would like to have a real, offset print run this time instead of doing print-on-demand like I did for the first book. Although this will allow me to print the books more cost effectively, it will require a larger investment upfront. By purchasing some original art, you will not only get a one-of-a-kind comic strip, it will also help me to achieve this goal. For those of you that would like to help me out, but don't want to spend as much money, I've made individual prints available for sale again as well. Just click the "Buy a print" link below your favorite comic strip. I just recently found a new printing vendor that I'm really happy with, so I hope you check it out.
Bacon Fun and Friday's Update Will Be Late
January 6, 2010 - Wednesday
I don't know why, but people are always sending me links to bacon and other pork products. Maybe it has something to do with Alp and Ferd's ongoing obsession with this heavenly meat. Anyway, I thought I'd share some of them. The first is from David Wilborn, and it's the perfect accessory for those of you on the go. Nineteen types of sausage in one place!
Next is from Christopher Hall, who sent me a bacon rap (no, not a bacon wrap). Seriously, shouldn't this be it's own genre of music?
Also, I just wanted to give you a heads up that Friday's update probably won't be posted until late Saturday. I didn't want anyone to worry that I had died of a coronary from eating too much bacon if they didn't see an update on Friday!
